SPOT LANDING CONTEST (Pilot of the Year...round 1) 18th April 2009

See Photos Here

The weather forecast of 2mph winds last Saturday was optimistic by about 15 mph as 12 members braved the howling gale and entered the spot landing contest.

While testing the suitability of the weather I managed to sustain some damage to my model and was forced to withdraw from the contest ..similarly Paul had to withdraw his model due to a faulty throttle servo

Because of the high wind the requirement to close the throttle to idle at the runway threshold was relaxed to a “high idle speed “ which regrettably did little to assist Andy whose lightly built electric powered model was seen to be flying backwards on final approach and miraculously avoided damage from the resulting steep and heavy landing

After two nail biting rounds the winner emerged as Simon Vines who scored 15 in the first round and after leaving his undercarriage on the runway at “point of contact” as proof, claimed 10 for round 2...a very commendable score of 25 out of a possible 30 . He was awarded a certificate and a prize of a compass cutter and a glow plug and now leads the competition table with 10 points.
