Bombdrop

Fine and dry weather with a light northerly breeze on 12th June indicated a right to left bombing run which 8 contestants were brave enough to attempt. Compared to last year this contest was much less dramatic... It was interesting to note that each model had a different variation of bomb release mechanism.... clearly lessons were learned from last year and we had no “hang ups” of bombs, no premature releases and no crashes.

With few exceptions all bombs landed somewhere on the runway and those that landed in the barley were quickly recovered by Ellis Dixon who also helped his dad,Vince, with the scoring

Round 1

Graham`s dive bombing technique left his bomb just on the far side of the runway for 0 points

Followed by Brian`s more orthodox delivery which had the same result. Peter`s vertical climb out was followed by a no score drop. A slow steady run by Cenk gave him a 5 point reward, Paul dropped his bomb on a dividing line to score 10 points. Joe followed with an indisputable 10 points. Rob dropped a 10 pointer and Robert followed up with a high speed circuit, dropping his bomb well into the barley.

Round 2

Now having gained a “feel “of it Graham`s run resulted in a 10 point score but Brian, dropping his bomb from a higher altitude placed it in the barley again( 0 points).after another vertical climb out Peter placed his “slimline “ bomb on the far side of the runway for 5 points .Cenk again employed a slow steady approach and his bomb landed just in the 5 point box. Paul`s bomb dropped into the 10 point box and Joe`s very slow run also scored 10 points. Rob could manage only a 5 point score in this round and Robert with nothing to lose used a half roll half loop approach but still scored 0 points.

FLY OFF

Paul and Joe each scored 5 points on the first pass of the first round with Joe again using a very slow approach. Paul`s next drop scored 10 points and Joe was only 6” short to score 5 points. So Paul Lewis was the winner and received a certificate , a selection of drill bits and 8 championship points,,,,,,,,,, but it was a darned close run thing !!!!
