Carrier Deck Landing

Held on 14th August this was the contest postponed ,due to high winds, from 17th July. It looked doubtful this time but at around 2pm the clouds thinned and the wind dropped to almost zero . Round 1

Cenk ,flying his high wing trainer touched down in the middle of the deck but missed the wires and rolled off the end. Graham landed” in the sea” on the nearside of the carrier. Rob placed his Tucano heavily in the middle of the deck but bounced off the end and into the rough at the end of the runway. Peter landed his Fun 40 well short of the carrier in the rough . Rod ,flying a much repaired trainer with a hastily fabricated hook ,landed on the deck but failing to engage a wire ran off the end. Brian flew his Cougar along the length of the deck before landing “in the sea” on the nearside of the carrier.

Round 2

Cenk lightly brushed “the waves”on approach and then flew over the deck and landed just off the far side of the deck.. Rob in an effort to land on the deck made contact at a very steep angle and again bounced off the deck but was prevented from running into the rough by his hook catching in the grass. Graham neatly snagged the second wire but it failed to slow his model sufficiently and he rolled off the end of the carrier. Peter again touched down short but bounced onto the deck, snagged a wire then rolled off the end. Rod landed gently on the far side of the deck but failed to engage a wire and rolled off the end. So far nobody had scored any points, Brian ,after a smooth approach ,landed on the deck ,hooked the first wire ,missed the second wire ,hooked the third wire and stayed on the deck. Which was good enough to be declared the winner. (This must be winning combination as Brian won the carrier landing last year flying the same cougar).
