Saturday 11th July in common with many other Saturdays this year featured strong blustery winds and frequent heavy showers but we were lucky that the rain held off while we ran the contest.

Disappointingly only 5 contestants entered the competition which was none the less hard fought

ROUND 1...................First to attempt the task was Joe who placed his ”bad boy” almost centrally on the deck snagging his undercarriage in the arrestor wire but without a hook fitted was unable to claim maximum points . Cenk followed with a similar landing his “mini meg” a little further along the deck failing to engage the arrestor .Brian flying his “cougar” landed on a wing tip and a wheel but also failed to engage an arrestor . Rob failed to win the battle against the oblique wind direction and crash landed his “Kavalier” well short in the “sea” (rape). Simon made possibly the neatest landing of the round but unfortunately was a little short of the deck ( would have flown into the side of the ship )

ROUND 2..................Again a good slow landing on the deck which would have caught the second wire had a hook been fitted. Cenk again made a similar landing but failed to engage the wire. Brian had to abort his first approach due to some extremely strong crosswind gusts On his second circuit he managed a heavy landing on the deck snagging the first wire and leaving his hook and mount still clinging to the wire as proof .Simon touched ground just off the farside of the deck and cartwheeled across the deck to finish upside down on the nearside. Rob after a scrappy approach caught the wire with one wheel just off the far side of the deck so again no points ..

WINNER.... Brian Belcher who wins a certificate and a razor plane and is now in 2nd place in the competition to Cenk Tugcetin.

This was a challenging contest in strong and unpredictable winds and I thank everyone who participated in such a good spirited manner..thanks also to those who assisted in setting up and dismantling the hardware thanks to Paul for keeping the scoresheet.

NEXT CONTEST...... ..Saturday 12th September ...Stanmore ......................SLALOM
